SCHERKENBACH, VIOLA (Nee Schabowski) Long-time East Troy area resident, passed away unexpectedly at her Lake Beulah home on March 25, 2007. Viola, age 94, was born on April 26, 1912, in Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Scherkenbach, a former owner of Peter Scherkenbach Grading and Excavating Co. of Milwaukee. The couple had lived in Greenfield, Wisconsin, for many years before moving to Lake Beulah in 1962. A proud mother of six, Viola will be especially missed by her children: Marlene (Tom) Filut, Frank A. (Donna) Scherkenbach, Sandra Bonham, Sharon (Bernard) Biba, Peter (Judith) Scherkenbach, and Daryl (Susan Zerwick) Scherkenbach. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other caring friends and relatives who frequented her Lake Beulah home and gardens. Everyone marveled at her effervescent energy level. Viola loved nature and enjoyed nurturing the lake environment. An avid gardener, she was noted for her beautiful plants and flowers and was a supporting member of various state and national conservation clubs. She was also a long-time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The family wishes to especially thank her many friends who provided community support as fellow parishioners, neighbors, and as volunteers under the Walworth County Health and Human Services “Meals on Wheels” and the Telecare-Walworth County programs. A memorial service (with initial gathering at 9:30 a.m.) will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2007, at St Peter’s Catholic Church, 1981 Beulah Avenue, East Troy. An informal luncheon reception will follow the service. Memorials to the church in Viola’s name would be appreciated.
